How to play AToZee
The objective is to guess words chosen at random by the computer.
Click on the button 'New Word' to start playing
The first letter of the word to find is always given. In the example below the first letter is 'C'.
Letters are typed into the text box below the grid and also appear in the grid as shown below:
When a full line has been typed it is analyzed by the computer. Below the player has typed the word 'CLEANER'.
The red coloured squares indicate letters that are correctly placed. In this case the first letter 'C' is the only letter correctly placed. The letters with green circles are in the word to be found but not correctly placed. So, the letter 'L' is in the word somewhere but is not the second letter.
Suppose the player now types the word 'ACCOUNT'. The computer analyzes the input as below:
The player now knows that there are two 'C's and that 'C' is not the second or third letter. The word contains a 'U' but not as the fifth letter. Also the word to find does not contain the letters 'A', 'O' or 'N' or 'T'.
Suppose the player now types the word 'TRUCKED'. The computer analyzes the input as below:
The player now knows that the third letter is 'U', the fourth letter is 'C' and the fifth letter is 'K'. Also the word contains the letter 'E'.
Words beginning with 'C' often start 'CH' so the player tries the word 'SHUDDER'.
Now the last letter must be 'E' and from the first word 'CLEANER' the remaining letter must be 'L'.
The winning line is highlighted and 1 point added to the players score.
If a line is entered by the player that is not recognized by the spell check then it is written in the grid in black. If the same word is entered twice by the player it is displayed in grey.
